A replacement dwelling being built to Passivhaus principles to meet the PHI Low Energy Building standard with a striking naturally lit hallway and landing area and several picture window seats.
The walls are built using traditional cavity wall construction with super-insulated cavities between two layers of blockwork, the outer leaf is then finished with render or timber cladding. The front roof slope is given over almost entirely to a solar pv array to offset the energy usage of the property and heating is supplied via an underfloor system downstairs powered by an air source heat pump which also provides the hot water to the property making it 'gas-free'.
